State Rankings Set as Local Track & Field Championships Wrap Up

With regional qualifications completed and a few days remaining before the state meet, local track and field athletes competed in local championships, getting one last tune-up for their events over the last week. Here’s a round-up from the Macomb County meet, the Blue Water Meet of Champions, and the Thumb Meet of Champs, and several top-ranking athletes heading into the state finals.  You can also check out all the new additions to this week’s area top-ten performance list under “Records and Stats” on the site.


Wed., May 20 at Warren Mott High School


GIRLS

  • Macomb Lutheran North Freshman Elliana Nothdurft claimed an all-county finish in both the 100 meters (13.17), 200 (26.57 PB), and the 400 (61.4 PB), placing fifth in all.

  • MLN’s Sam Whitlam ran 60.37 to take third in the 400, and eighth in the 800 in 2:24.

  • New Haven’s Emma Reimer was 10th in the 800 in a new season’s best of 2:29.

  • Alannah Wessel won the 1600 in 5:01 for Macomb Homeschool Academy, with a fourth-place 800-meter finish in 2:21.

  • Austin Catholic’s Cassidy Bowers was sixth in the 1600 (5:31 PB), while MLN’s Chloe Boright was ninth in 5:34, a best for her.

  • Macomb Homeschool Academy’s Faith Wessel (2nd; 11:44), Boright (3rd; 11:49), Bowers (4th; 11:58), and Avery Stallman of MLN (5th; 12:17) were in the top five for the ladies’ 3200-meter run.

  • Taylor Surgener of Anchor Bay had another sub-50-second 300-meter hurdle race to take fifth place in 49.43.

  • Anchor Bay’s Ella Wood, Iyanna Brown, Jillian Marentette, and Brooke Laplante took fourth in the 4x400 relay in 4:23.

  • Avery Stallman, Lucy Gump, Ariana Macri, and Annie McMahon were fifth in 10:31 for MLN in the 4x800 relay.

  • Anchor Bay’s Sydney Slay was third in both shot put and discus, with throws of 35-5 and 116-10, respectively.

  • Roxy Mendez (Macomb Lutheran North), Jillian Marentette (Anchor Bay), and Autumn Pratt (Macomb Lutheran North) all tied for fifth with high jumps of 4-9.

  • Pratt won the pole vault in 9-6, a personal best, while Richmond’s Madison Starnes was fourth with a vault of 8-0.

BOYS

  • MLN teammates Will Haskins (52.26) and Joseph Avolio (52.50 PB) went 7-8 in the 400-meter dash.

  • Brandon Ziehmer won the Macomb County Meet 800 with a time of 1:58.85, a new best for the senior from Anchor Bay. Josh Macri was ninth in 2:02 for MLN.  Macri then went on to win the 1600 in 4:27.  Teammate Xavier Roman was eighth in 4:33, a new personal best.

  • Maxwell Durham was the Blue Water Area’s top finisher in the 3200, with a fourth-place spot in 9:58, running a new personal best and breaking a FIFTY-SIX-year-old school record.  Durham now owns all the distance records for New Haven High School.

  • Anchor Bay’s Kacy Agyeman was fourth in 15.46 in the 110-meter hurdles.

  • MLN’s Haskins, Roman, Avolio, and Macri were fifth in the 4x400 (3:33), while Anchor Bay’s Aygeman, Ziehmer, Cameron Hickey, and Thomas Salveta were sixth (3:33).

  • Aaron Osterman, Sebastian Azar, Ziehmer, and Salveta were county runners-up in the 4x800 (Anchor Bay). Their time was 8:11, the fastest Blue Water Area time by 10 seconds.

  • Cameron Gramzow took the double throws victory with a 49-7 shot put and 187 feet in the discus.  Teammate Noah Ring was third in shot with a 47-5 to put two Anchor Bay Tars on the podium.

  • Lucas Hardoin was fifth in the long jump for Anchor Bay, leaping 20-0.5 feet.
