The last LAB and SVSU MITS meets wrapped up on Feb. 22 and now high school indoor athletes are looking ahead to the MITS Championships March 8 and 9 at Central Michigan University. Here’s a recap of the track and field action for local Blue Water Area athletes over the past weekend.

The LAB hosted the 2025 Midwest Showcase, featuring athletes in high school, middle school, and elementary divisions.

SVSU MITS Meet 4
In the girls’ 1600 meters, Alanna Wessel of Dark Horse Track Club (MACH) was runner-up in her new indoor PR of 5:09.38, a best by three seconds. Emma Reimer of New Haven High School/Breen Track Club has shown immense improvement this season, running a new best by almost a full minute over last year’s outdoor time, taking tenth in 5:36. Samantha Langolf (PHN/Blue Water TC) ran her first attempt at the 1600 this indoor season, taking 15th in 5:41, which bests her outdoor PR as well. Dryden’s Cara Prusakiewicz was 27th in 5:47 (PR) and Sophie Szabo was 54th in 7:05 (New Haven/Breen Track Club).

Kieran Whitlam (MLN) took another first-place win for the Inversion Vault Club with a jump of 13’-6” in the pole vault.

Girls
High Jump
Keirra Taube (Yale/Michigan Racers) is currently the top entry in the event with a jump of 5’-6”. Alysia Goudelock (Anchor Bay/16 Ways Track Club) is fifth in 5’-2”. Taube is also registered fourth in the long jump at 17’-4”.
60/200 Meters
Port Huron High’s Malencia Price (Motor City Track Club) is seeded in the top 20 in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dash in times of 8.05 and 26.35. Armada’s Cristina Semian (16 Ways) has a 200 time of 27.22. Price and Semian are closely matched in the 400, with times of 61.02 and 61.74, respectively.
Relays
Semian and Armada’s Allison Mansfield are listed as a part of the 16 Ways’ 4x200 relay with an entry time of 1:50.90. They join MLN’s Samantha Whitlam as legs in the 4x400 relay in 4:22.
Blue Water Track Club’s Haley Sharp, Isabella Nestle, Miley Caughel, and Samantha Langolf are repping Port Huron Northern in the DMR, currently ranked 13th in 13:44.

Pole Vault
Chase Battani (Almont) is listed twelfth in the pole vault at 13’-1”.
60-Meter Hurdles
Jonah Konarz (AB/16 Ways) is the number four seed at 8.35.
Relays
Xavier Roman, Brandon Ziehmer, Vasilios Kirchhoff, Mario Carducci, and Nicholas Milosavlevski have all been listed as potential runners in the 16 Ways relay with a time of 3:43.46. Kirchhoff is also part of the sixth-seed sprint medley relay in 3:48.
*Konarz is also part of the number three seed 4x400 relay in 3:28.23.
In the distance medley relay, a variety of local runners are listed as possible contributors to the event for 16 Ways: Joshua Macri, Xavier Roman, Nicholas Milosavlevski, Aaron Osterman, and Brandon Ziehmer are ranked seventh in 11:10.42. Macri and Roman are students at Macomb Lutheran North, while Osterman and Ziehmer attend Anchor Bay High School. Vasilios Kirchhoff (MLN) joins these names with an entry in the 4x800 in 8:43.
Throws
AB’s Cameron Gramzow is entered in the shot put (44’-9”) and discus (147’-5”).
COLLEGIATE RESULTS
Full Results:
The Tune-Up Meet at SVSU on Friday, Feb. 21 featured athletes from SC4, MCC, and other collegiate athletes who are former Blue Water Area high school track and field members.
Olivia Reynolds of Oakland (Dryden) was tenth in the women’s 400 in 60.65. Laela Bhatti of SC4 was 17th in 70.65.
In the men’s 800, SC4’s Trent Glass (Marysville) was eighth, running his best of 1:57, setting a new school record. David Harris of Ferris State (St. Clair) was close behind, taking ninth in 1:57.67, also a PR. Lucas Shemansky of Macomb Community College took 21st in 2:04, a best for him as well.
On the women’s side, Grace Wessel, formerly of MACH/SC4 and running unattached, was ninth in 2:24. Wayne State’s Jessica Denver was 10th in 2:25, a PR for the former Imlay City runner. Wessel ran again in the mile, taking sixth in a PR of 5:09.33. Ava LaMilza was 12th in 5:32 (PR) for MCC, while Emma Dell was 17th (5:40 PR) and Erin Rowan 18th (5:42). Olivia Crawford was 23rd in 6:03 (PR) for SC4.
In the mile, SVSU’s Lukas Kiresch (Yale) had a big PR, running 4:24. Vinny Schweihofer of SC4 was 16th in 4:30 (PR) and Shemansky 29th in 4:47 (PR). MCC had a large contingent of milers, with Jack DeWaele taking 35th (4:52 PR), Dylan Penberthy 38th (4:58), Mathieu Fortier 39th (5:01 PR), Preston Corneillie 40th (5:03 PR), and Brandon Penberthy in 41st (5:05 PR).
Acer Campbell led all local runners in the 3000 meters, taking fifth in 8:58 for SC4. His former Yale teammate Blake Ferguson, now a Bulldog at Ferris State, took seventh in 9:03, a PR. Schweihofer was 15th (9:41 PR), Dylan Schuman 17th (9:43), and Glass 19th (9:54 PR) for the Skippers. DeWaele (18th; 9:51) and Corneillie (22nd; 10:23 PR) rounded up the finishers for MCC.
Ava LaMilza was the highest finisher in the women’s 3000, taking fourth in 10:50, a PR, while teammates Emma Dell and Erin Rowan were tenth (11:28 PR) and 13th (11:31 PR), respectively.
The 5000-meter run was full of former BWA runners, with Isaac Zammit taking fifth in 15:32, a PR for the former Cardinal Mooney athlete, now a cardinal with SVSU. Ethan McCombs was seventh for SC4 (15:45 PR), while former Macomb Lutheran North runner Brewer Snay (competing unattached at Oakland) was eighth in 15:49, a PR. Brandon Penberthy was 15th in 17:17(PR), Mathieu Fortier 17th (17:18 PR,) and Dylan Penberthy 18th (17:42 PR) for MCC. SC4 women’s coach Andrea Rheume hopped in the ladies’ 5K unattached and dropped a very respectable time of 19:46.
The SC4 4x400 relay of Glass, Schweihofer, Campbell, and McCombs was second in 3:52. The MCC relay of DeWaele, Penberthy, Shemansky, and Carson Gilbertson was third in 3:54. Denver helped Wayne State to a second-place women’s finish in 4:30, while Dell, Rowan, LaMilza, and Lisaleen Ung were third in 4:49 for MCC.
SVSU’s Janae Hudson (Marysville) was sixth in the 20-lb. weight throw (13.71 m) and third in the shot put in a collegiate PR of 13.0 meters.
