Boullard, Kann, and Konarz Hit EQs At Weekend Invitationals

The majority of Blue Water Area teams raced in mid-week conference matchups and Friday night invitationals: here’s a summary of meet highlights from athletes in our area by event.


100 Meters

BOYS

  • Anchor Bay’s Gerry Hanson dipped under 11 seconds for the first time, running a 10.99 at the Anchor Bay Invitational on Friday evening and getting oh-so-close to the D1 EQ of 10.95 in the event.

  • Vasili Kasparian of Port Huron Northern ran a PR (11.22) at Anchor Bay and is second in the area for season-best times on the performance list.

  • Brett Lestage of Imlay City ran 11.23 for a new PR at the Cardinal Classic Invitational in Dryden to take second place and sit at number three in the area.

GIRLS

  • Freshman Ava Lovett of Richmond ran a PR at the Anchor Bay Invitational to finish fourth in 13.09.

  • Penelope McNutt (North Branch) ran a 13.20 PR at the Davison Twilight Invitational.

  • Keira Miller ran a 13.28 PR for Cros-Lex at the BWAC duel meet.

  • Another freshman, Lydia Stockwell of St. Clair, ran her PR of 13.49 on April 30 at the MAC GOLD versus Sterling Heights.


200 Meters

BOYS

  • Imlay’s Brett Lestage (23.32 PR) and Armada’s Todd Seiler (23.64) ran PRs in duel meets this week.

GIRLS

  • Duel meet PRs include Liana Martoni (27.14/Macomb Lutheran North), Ava Lovett (27.29 PR/Richmond), Brooklyn Khon (27.51 PR/Armada), and Ava Oleski (Cros-Lex/27.69).

  • Penelope McNutt (27.39), Keirra Miller (27.70), and Kayla Faust (PHN/27.70) also PRd in the 200 over the weekend.


400 Meters

BOYS

  • At Friday night’s Davison Twilight Classic, Thomas Kann (pictured) of North Branch dropped a huge PR and went sub-50 seconds in the open 400-meter dash, running 49.94 to take second place and hit the early qualifying standard of 50.30 for the D2 state finals. This is only the third time Kann has ever raced the 400 meters in his career, and it will be the first time he takes a trip to the state meet. He is currently the fastest high school boy in the event in the Blue Water Running coverage area, now sitting at number one on the top-ten area performance list by over a second, and ranked fifth in the state of Michigan.

  • Enrique Cardenas (Imlay City) put his name on the area performance list in the 400 with his 52.33 PR at the Dryden Cardinal Classic.

  • Yale’s Jackson Kohler ran a PR by close to a second in 52.82 at the Goodrich Invitational.

GIRLS

  • Four of the top five girls’ times in the 400 were run this week at the Armada/Richmond/Yale BWAC duel meet, and the top three are all freshmen. To make it into the top ten on the area performance list, you now have to run 63 seconds or under, a one-second drop over the last week. Saige Cole (Yale freshman record/1:00.17 PR), Ava Lovett (1:00.58 PR/Richmond), and Jenna Dobbs (1:02.05 PR/Algonac) lead the Blue Water Area, with Armada teammates Brooklyn Khon (1:02.30) and Allison Mansfield (1:02.44 PR) taking the fourth and fifth spots.

  • Elizabeth Stanfield (Cros-Lex) ran a PR of 1:03.01 on May 2 at the Reese Invite.


800 Meters

GIRLS

  • Freshman Morgan Pillon (PHN) ran a PR at the Anchor Bay Invitational, taking fourth in 2:33.

  • Lena Janssen of Yale ran her PR of 2:36 at the BWAC tri versus Armada/Richmond on Tuesday.


1500 Meters

The 1500 is usually contested in collegiate meets, but Macomb Lutheran North’s Joshua Macri (4:11) and Nino Biondo (4:44) gave the race a go at the Wandering Wizard Invitational at Grosse Pointe. Macri won the event, and Biondo was 12th. For the girls, ninth-graders Chloe Boright (5:28.60 PR) and Lucy Gump (5:45.35 PR) also competed for MLN.


1600 Meters

BOYS

  • Connor Pepin of Cros-Lex dropped from a 4:52 to a 4:47 PR at the Reese Invite.

  • Anchor Bay's Aaron Osterman ran a 4:49.05 PR on April 28 versus Chippewa Valley/Fraser.

GIRLS

  • Freshman Taylor Stanczak ran her PR of 5:34 at the Davison Invitational, dropping almost a full minute since the beginning of this season and moving her up the area performance list by close to twenty seconds.

  • Stella Behnan (5:49/Cardinal Mooney Catholic) and Laila Evola (5:51/Almont) also had PRs at their respective weekend invitational meets.


3200 Meters

BOYS

  • Xavier Roman ran a sub-10 3200 in 9:58 (PR) for Macomb Lutheran North to finish second at the Wandering Wizard Invitational. Teammate Samuel Kochensparger had a PR of 10:24 and finished sixth.

  • Yale’s Ted Rutkofske (10:50.21) and Richmond’s Mason Pietrykowski (10:50.28) both ran close PRs at Richmond & Yale’s BWAC duel at Armada.

  • New Haven’s Maxwell Durham had a PR of 10:19 at the Anchor Bay Invitational.

GIRLS

  • Cros-Lex’s Eva Thompson retained her top spot in the area 3200 while dropping a few seconds to run 11:42 at the Reese Invite to take first place. She also won the 1600 in 5:20.

  • Port Huron Northern freshman Riley Owen makes her first appearance on the area performance list in 12:31, more than 30 seconds faster than her first attempt in April. Dryden’s Cara Prusakiewicz did the same, dropping over half a minute to join the list in her PR of 12:39.

110-Meter Hurdles

BOYS

  • EQs were earned for athletes across several divisions at the Anchor Bay Invitational. Jonah Konarz punched his ticket to the state meet with a new PR of 14.70 on his home track, just hurdling in under the D1 EQ standard of 14.80 and winning the event.

  • Runner-up Colin Boullard of St. Clair met the D2 EQ (15.30) with a time of 15.12, also a PR.

  • Setting a personal best but just missing the EQ was Evan O'Brien of Macomb Lutheran North with a 15.31 at the Wandering Wizard Invitational.

GIRLS

  • PHN’s Addison Cruciano lowered her PR by a second in the hurdling event at the Anchor Bay Invitational to run a 17.32 PR, taking fourth.

  • Tessa Meredith (17.34/St. Clair) and Autumn Pratt (17.51/Macomb Lutheran North) also lowered their PRs this weekend.


300-Meter Hurdles


BOYS

Jonah Konarz ran another PR in the 300 hurdles (39.57) Friday night, closing in on the 39.2 EQ (picture courtesy of Rick Leslie/AB T&F). Several of the top hurdlers in this event in our area set PRs this weekend.

  • Cameron Cronce - 41.49 PR Port Huron Northern

  • Kacy Agyeman - 41.89 PR Anchor Bay

  • Gavin Oleski - 42.43 PR Croswell-Lexington

  • Kyler Kramp - 42.82 PR Anchor Bay

GIRLS

  • Along with her 100 hurdle PR, Addison Cruciano ran a massive personal best in the 300 hurdles, dropping several seconds to run 52.75.

  • Cros-Lex’s Brook Bolsby ran 54.45 on Tuesday’s BWAC matchup with Imlay City to earn a top-ten time in the area's performance list for the 300 hurdles.


4x100 Relay

GIRLS

  • North Branch retained its top spot on the performance list but lowered its time at the Davison Twilight Classic (Ella Swoish, Aubree Deshetsky, Rowan Conley, Penelope McNutt, 52.10).

  • Audrey Lee, Lydia Stockwell, Isabella Bratt, and Ashuna Johnson dropped close to three seconds at their MAC Gold meet versus Sterling Heights to put St. Clair on the 4x100 list (53.92).

  • Macomb Lutheran North lowered its relay time by two seconds at the Wandering Wizard Invitational (Estella Avolio, Emma McGrath, Natalie Korich, Liana Martoni, 54.17).


4x200 Relay

BOYS

Two boys' teams lowered their relay times at the Davison Twilight Classic:

  • North Branch's Thomas Kann, Liam McIntyre, Braydon Robinson, Bryce Barkowska: 1:34.36

  • Almont also added the Raiders to the top ten, running 1:34.82 with Tim Miller, Nolan Maxlow, Eric Haddon, and Matthew Bacholzky (picture courtesy of Almont T&F).

  • Imlay City Brett Lestage, Enrique Cardenas, Ethan Everhart, and Alan Valdovinos ran the area’s leading time at their BWAC duel in 1:31.22.

  • Cros-Lex moved onto the list in the 4x200: Ethan Jackson, John Herman, William Herman, and Noah Jackson ran 1:34.07.

GIRLS

  • Keira Miller, Elizabeth Stanfield, Ashton Temple, and Ava Oleski ran a 1:51.43 at the Reese Invite to move Croswell-Lexington to the number one spot on the area performance list in the 4x200 relay.

  • Addison Horvath, Katya Anderson, Liana Martoni, and Samantha Whitlam ran 1:54.76 on April 29 to put Macomb Lutheran North at number nine on the area list.

  • PHN and North Branch also lowered their relay times this weekend to 1:52.


4x400 Relay

GIRLS

  • Cros-Lex lowered their best relay time this season by approximately five seconds with a 4:37 to finish second at the Reese Invite (Elizabeth Stanfield, Leah Livingston, Brooke Bolsby, Nevaeh Biscarner).

  • Yale ran a 4:27 at the April 29 BWAC meet.

PHN's girls' team finished second at the Anchor Bay Invitational.

4x800 Relay

BOYS

  • Cros-Lex ran an 8:47 at the Reese Invite on May 2; their previous best was a 9:08.

  • St. Clair’s relay made an appearance on the area top-ten in a time of 8:56. Korbyn Thornton, Ethan Kreger, Luke McDonnell, and Jerry Westrick ran 8:56 at the Anchor Bay Invitational.

GIRLS

  • The 4x800 relay of Miley Caughel, Cassie Gibson, Haley Sharp, and Samantha Langolf ran a 10:18.99 to drop over a minute of their previous best at the Anchor Bay Invitational. Picture courtesy of Stephanie Caughel.

  • Cros-Lex also lowered their time by ten seconds to win the Reese Invite.


Pole Vault

BOYS

  • Almont’s Chase Battani (picture courtesy of Almont T&F) cleared 14 feet and still tops the area list for pole vault, while teammate Gabriel Hibner vaulted his PR of 10'-6".

  • Vasili Kasparian set a 7-inch PR to vault 10'-6" PR at the Anchor Bay Invitational for Port Huron Northern.

  • Yale’s William Lawson went 11' in the BWAC duel at Armada, while freshman Bulldog Logan Carrier went 10’.

GIRLS

  • St. Clair Freshman Lydia Stockwell joins the pole vault performance list by jumping 8' at April 30’s MAC Gold meet.

  • Richmond freshman Madison Starnes moved up a foot and a half from 6’-6” to an 8’ PR.

  • Imlay City’s Kendal Donahue saw a half-foot gain to move up to 7'-6".

Long Jump

BOYS

  • North Branch’s Wyatt Muxlow had a PR of 19'-5.5" at the Davison Twilight Invitational.

GIRLS

  • Samantha Whitlam jumped 15’-7” at the Wandering Wizard Invitational


Shot Put

BOYS’ PRs:

  • Lincoln Watkins 48'-9” Port Huron Northern

  • Zack Haywood 47'-0" Yale

  • Jiovanni Travis 44'-3" North Branch


Discus

BOYS

  • Zack Haywood 150'-8" Yale

GIRLS

While the girls' shot put didn’t see much movement, the discus did: several girls had PRs this weekend.

  • Katie Gill: 110'-6" PR/North Branch/Davison Twilight Classic

  • Sidney James: 109' PR/Richmond/Anchor Bay Invitational

  • Ava Klink: 101'-5" PR/Capac/Marlette Quad

  • Ashley Shaw: 96'-11" PR/Port Huron Northern/Anchor Bay Invitational

  • Bree Rule: 93'-8" PR/Croswell-Lexington/Reese Invite


High Jump

BOYS

  • Sophomore Gavin Oleski of Cros-Lex now tops the high jump list with PHN's Isaiah Lopez for the Blue Water Area at 6’, jumping to win at the BWAC duel versus Imlay City.

  • Eli Garcia jumped a PR at the same meet, going 5’-10”.

GIRLS

  • Valeria Ricossa jumped 5’-1” to move into second on the area performance list with a home jump at Armada on April 29.


At the time of this article’s publication, the top ten area performance lists and meet reporting did not include the Algonac Muskrat Classic, for which results were not yet posted.
